Welcome to The Body Keeps the Checklist, a place to learn how human cognition degrades predictably under stress using aviation human factors and trauma science as the foundation, as well as ways to design around those failure modes in a way that can reduce mistakes, increase performance, and for some people, provide time, 5-10 minutes at a time, until they can find a way to hand themselves off to outside help during crisis.
I am a systems thinker and survivor of many things, and have used the pain and mistakes of my life to try to figure out what went wrong and how I can do better next time, and it’s with this in mind that I’m hoping to help others who are interested in such an approach to improve their lives.
This is just the beginning of much more to come, but I hope to grow this space as a resource and wealth of knowledge for those who are interested in learning how to access what they already know during times when it’s difficult to nearly impossible to access it. Practice makes permanent, and adopting a daily practice and mindset of preparedness when the sky is blue to be able to navigate the storms of life is key to this approach.
Stay tuned for more things to come! Thank you for stopping by and I hope you’ll stick around for more!
